About Us
Julia Hay, Director
Julia graduated from the University of Sydney in 2007 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) and has worked in paediatrics since 2007 both in Australia and the United Kingdom.
She has extensive experience working with children who have coordination, sensory processing, developmental, social and behavioural difficulties. In the United Kingdom, Julia held senior occupational therapy positions implementing sensory integration based intervention in school settings and working with Autistic children both in London and Manchester.
Upon returning from the UK in 2011, Julia worked in private practice in Sydney's Inner West, specialising in helping children with sensory processing differences, anxiety, social and emotional difficulties, challenging behaviours and children with complex needs. In 2016, she started Julia's Place.
Julia is passionate about Neurodiversity, Acceptance and Inclusion. She strongly believes that Autistic children should be supported to reach their potential without pressure to conform to Neurotypical norms. Julia regularly engages in continuing professional development and has completed an extensive range of courses specific to sensory integration and challenging behaviours. She has attended seminars by Dr Ross Greene in 2018 and 2019 and frequently references his works when supporting children with complex behavioural needs.
Julia enjoys taking a team approach to a child’s development, incorporating the goals of parents, teachers and other professionals into intervention. In 2019, Julia and her husband Dane welcomed twin girls, to add to the chaos of their three "big" girls from Dane's first marriage. When not at work, Julia can be found pottering around with her dogs and chickens, playing soccer or bush walking.
